Christchurch won't be left out of the Rugby World Cup - a fan zone and big screen will be set up at Hagley Park to show the big matches live.
The February earthquake ruined the direct involvement of Christchurch, which was to
have hosted seven games, in the cup.
However, two Christchurch cabinet ministers, Associate Minister for the RWC Gerry Brownlee and David Carter, are expected to soon announce plans for a cup fiesta at North Hagley for Christchurch fans.
The way will be paved tomorrow when the city council is expected to approve a temporary events space at North Hagley for seven months from July 1 to January 30.
The proposed "events hub venue" would provide a central venue for activities planned there including the RWC fan zone, says council marketing manager Richard Stokes in a report for the meeting.
A dome will be installed as the events hub and be renamed The Ruck for the RWC, with three smaller domes, at least one a bar-cafe, as well. The Fan Zone will be located at the Armagh St bridge end.

RWC Minister Murray McCully's office declined to talk about the project, wanting apparently to leave it to the two Christchurch ministers to launch it.
Rugby NZ 2011 and the Canterbury Rugby Union also declined to comment.
A spokesman for Mr Brownlee's office said no finalised plans were "through the door yet. I'm not sure what shape it will take or how it will roll out."
